Boost Your Mood & Energy with Movement

There is nothing like a bit of movement to boost your energy.

In Autumn the days get shorter and the weather is a bit all over the place. For some people this can affect their energy levels and motivation to move their body.

SAD (Seasonal Defective Disorder) is a very real thing and is something to speak with your psychologist or GP about.

One way to support your body when you are feeling like your energy or mood are low is of corse to rest but also to move your energy around! Exercise, especially exercise outdoors when the weather permits is a recommended way to do this.

If the weather is too miserable or dark at the time of day you have to exercise you can try bringing the outdoors in with good natural lighting, fresh air and maybe some plant power through indoor plants and essential oils.

Below I share some simple ways to get your energy moving, accompanied by some essential oil suggestions.

Here are some movement and essential oil combinations I work with especially at this time of year to keep my body nourished and full of energy:

  • A drop of Citrus Bliss (or Elevation) in the palms of my hands, rub together and take 5 deep breaths, then go for a quick walk around the block before I sit down at my desk. You could also do this by getting off the bus a stop earlier to walk part of the way into work or parking the car further away from school and walking with your children in so the whole family can get some fresh air before they start their day.

  • Roll out your mat for some afternoon Yoga in the Autumn sunshine with Align or Arise/Ascend (from the Yoga Collection) or Rosemary on my chest and back of my neck. If you work from home or just do this on the weekend, even 10 minutes of fresh air, Yoga and sunshine makes a difference.

  • Get your heart rate up! Rub some AromaTouch or Easy Air into your tense neck and shoulders, add some Peppermint to your temples and lace up for a run or workout. If you can do this outside and before the sun goes down amazing! If not pop two drops of each Lemon and Peppermint in your diffuser (or a roller bottle to apply at the gym) to give you an added refresh when you can’t work out outside.

If you don’t yet have your own essential oils I can set you up with some. Get in touch here.

Suggested Movement Resources:

  • Yoga - Try out my free Yoga Library or join my Inahle Yoga Membership to access hours of yoga classes when you need it with more classes being added each month.

  • Work Out - I love Shona Vertues programs!

  • Running - I’ve always been a runner so while I haven’t used a running app myself, I know a lot of people who have had great success with them. If you are looking for an app to support you in getting running, I suggest Run180 created by a physiotherapist and running coach, Rachel Stanley.
