Yoga Props for Yoga at Home

Laura sitting on her blue yoga mat hugging her green bolster in front of a white wall.

I do love my yoga props!

So you are now doing Yoga at Home but all you have is a mat. No blocks, no strap, no bolster! No problem!

Most of the Yoga props I mention are available from Stretch Now (contains affiliate links) and Calm Buddhi.

Yoga Bolster

Yoga bolsters are available in a couple of different shapes. In the pictures is my round bolster but rectangle bolsters are also great.

DIY Options

Cushion - Use a large and firm couch cushion or stack a couple to use for support in your seated forward folds.

Foam Roller - Use your foam roller as it is or wrap it in a blanket to soften as shown in the images below.

Purchase Options

Stretch Now - This is where I have always previously purchased my bolsters from. They are great quality and quite dense. I have purchased the organic cotton bolsters which have removable and washable covers. Different shapes and patterns are also available.

Calm Buddhi - I recently found out about Calm Buddhi and am looking forward to purchasing some new Yoga props from Angela the owner in the future. I head about Calm Buddhi through an Australian Yoga Teacher podcast I listen to and love that Angela is an Australian Yoga teacher herself.

Yoga Strap

A Yoga strap is an inexpensive and easy to store prop, some Yoga mat straps are even designed to function as a Yoga strap.

DIY Options

Towel, Blanket or Rehab Band - All make great make-shift straps for supine poses. I’d definitely want my own strap for any standing poses though!

Purchase Options

Stretch Now - The black Yoga straps we have in class are the organic cotton 2m straps. If you sometimes find them a little short you might like to purchase the 3m strap.

Yoga Blocks

Yoga Blocks are a very versitile prop to have around. They can be used in all forms of Yoga. To provide stable ground for your bottom hand in Ardha Chandrasana (half moon), support under your sacrum in a gentle supported bridge inversion or to rest your head in a seated forward fold during your Yin Yoga practise.

DIY Options

Dictionary - Provided you still have a chunky hardback dictionary at home! Careful though as this one might not be super stable for you.

Sturdy Ceramic Pot - I am talking about those cheap ones you might have lying around you had a smallish indoor plant in that died..Give it a rinse out and it might make a good base of support for your next Ardha Chandrasana!

Purchase Options

Stretch Now - have cotton (more suited to restorative Yoga than Vinyasa or Hatha), bamboo and cork blocks available. The cork blocks are firmer than foam blocks but are very study.

Calm Buddhi - also have cork blocks.

Eye Pillow

This one is for if you really want to relax.

DIY Options

Check our Yoga Journal’s guide to making your own eye pillow.

Purchase Options

Stretch Now - Here you can find eye pillows in bamboo, silk and printed silk.

Calm Buddhi - Check out the beautiful prints! You might even be able match your eye pillow with your bolster!

Wili Heat Packs - I like to warm or cool my Wili Eye Mask to use as a Yoga eye pillow. I love Wili Heat Packs as they are made locally by and Adelaide business owner and the prints are gorgeous. They are also safer than the traditional wheat heat pack.
