Essential Oil Diffusers
Using and taking care of your diffuser.
Did you know that the easiest way to receive the benefits of Essential Oils is to diffuse them?
We can get caught up in what to blend, how much of each ect. But the thing I love about diffusing is less is more, start with 1-2 drops of each of 1-3 oils and test it out. The worst case is that you don’t like the smell, tip it out and start over.
I love diffusing because it gives me a chance to experiment with my oils.
In this blog I share a bit about two doTERRA diffusers available in the Australia and New Zealand market and how to take care of them.
The Petal Diffuser

The Lumo Diffuser
The Lumo is a longer running diffuser great for larger rooms and open spaces. I have two, one for my bedroom to run intermittently throughout the night and one for my home office.
Key Points:
2, 5 and 10 hour settings.
Intermittent diffusing at 10 hours, 5 minutes on and 5 minutes off.

A few words on cheap diffusers. I highly recommend investing in a high quality diffuser and not pay less than $50. You will find cheaper diffusers will require more of your Essential Oils that a quality diffuser. They might also use heat. It is also important to remember that we are mixing water with a power source here! For me safety and quality are a priority.
Cleaning Your Diffuser
This is something that we probably don’t do enough but is important to help keep your diffuser running smoothly and for a long time. I recommend emptying your diffuser completely and rinsing after most uses and using these two cleans on a regular basis.
Weekly Quick Clean
Unplug and Empty your diffuser completely.
Wipe out the inside of your diffuser with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Monthly Deep Clean
Turn off your diffuser and empty any remaining water or oils.
Wipe clean.
Fill the water reservoir to the line with fresh water.
Add a tea spoon of pure white vinegar to the water reservoir.
Turn on and run for 5 minutes, allowing the vinegar to disperse throughout.
Unplug and empty the water reservoir completely.
Dip a cotton swab in white vinegar and wipe down the edges of the water reservoir as well as the ultrasonic mist chip.
If you find the top two plastic parts of your diffuser have build up on them soak for an hour in a white vinegar and water solution. I use a dash or two of white vinegar.
Rinse the inside of the water reservoir with clean water.
Wipe the reservoir with a dry cloth and let air dry before using it again.
Rinse and wipe dry the top parts of the diffuser.
Put your diffuser back together.
